MLB – NY Yankees at NY Mets (8:05 PM ET – ESPN)
In the Big Apple, the Mets and Yankees will be getting together
2007-05-18
In the Big Apple, the Mets and Yankees will be getting together for Game 3 of their “Subway Series” at Shea Stadium tonight at 8:05 PM ET. ESPN will of course have its Sunday Night Game of the Week team on hand to bring you the action. As of press time, the Yankees had yet to name a starting pitcher for the contest, but whomever it is will be opposed by John Maine, a tough young right-hander for the Mets who has his eye on an all-star game appearance in July.
The national league team from New York has been the better team thus far in MLB betting 2007, outscoring opponents by over 1-1/2 runs per game while fighting for the lead in the tough East division. They entered play this week over 5 units to the good in terms of betting return. The same can’t be said for the Bronx Bombers, who have struggled below .500 so far while losing their backers over 13 units, the league’s worst return on investment.
Checking the StatFox FoxSheet, there were a couple of key trends that were in play heading into this series for both teams. They will obviously still apply for Sunday’s game, with updated records dependent upon what happened Friday and Saturday. First, regarding the Yankees road prowess, NY YANKEES are 50-29 (+21.5 Units) against the money line in road games when playing against a top-level team (Win Pct. > 62%) since 1997. The average score was NY YANKEES 6.1, OPPONENT 4.1 – (Rating = 1*) However, that is opposed by this just as impressive angle on the hosts: NY METS are 58-35 (+16.7 Units) against the money line vs. an average bullpen whose ERA is 3.75 to 4.50 over the last 2 seasons. The average score was NY METS 5.5, OPPONENT 4.6 – (Rating = 1*)
With the proposed pitching matchups that were slated for Games 1& 2 of the series, in all likelihood, Sunday’s game will be the “rubber match” of the Subway Series, so bragging rights for all of New York city could be on the line. It could be MUST SEE TV to wrap up another great sports weekend.
Of course, the Mets-Yankees clash will wrap up Sunday’s baseball betting board. Don’t forget about the other 14 afternoon games on the card. Stay on top of all the action with the MLB Live Odds link and MLB Team Statistics pages on Sportsbook.com.
